Personal development, health and physical education

Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.

Physical education

Physical education (PE) forms part of the Kindergarten to Year 6 curriculum and is timetabled weekly. In Kindergarten the focus is on general fitness and learning school yard games and ball skills. In some terms we will have a course of an activity from an external provider, such as gymnastics.

School sports carnivals, swimming, cross country and athletics, take place during the year. The school also participates in inter-school competitions organised by the Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) which is available to students in Years 3 to 6.

Sporting houses

There are four sporting houses – Flinders (yellow), Barton (red) and Wentworth (blue) and Phillip (green). Students are placed into their houses in their first year at the school, and will compete for their house at school carnivals.
